Tennis Game Rules

Tennis follows simple rules. But the game itself can’t be considered as an easy one. Tennis is a complex game wherein two or more players should be in the game court at the same time. Here are the simplified rules of the game:

1. There should be at least two players on the game court to play against each other. The opposing players or teams should be on each side of the court.

2. The game is started with a service. Which team will serve the ball first can be determined by a toss coin or a racquet toss. Players can also select which side of the field they’ll play on through this process.

3. There are lines on the court that are used for a singles or a doubles game. These lines would determine the service area and the playing field in effect in the game.

4. The server should hit the ball only when the receivers are ready for it.

5. The ball should land on the service box on the opposite end during the serve. If it didn’t, a fault will be called and a second chance is given to the server.

6. Tennis game scoring is done like a clock. The first point is 15, then 30, and then 45, although 40 is more commonly used these days. When the player gets another point after 40, he is given one full game point. In case of a 40-40 score, either the player should score double points to win the round.

7. The ball should not go into the net or outside the playing court. If it does, the opposing team gets the point.

8. The set is won by the team or player who gets 6 games first. Winning 2 sets wins the game for women's tennis. Winning 3 sets wins the game for men's tennis.

9. ‘Let’ can be called if the ball rolls on the court or if there are any distractions on the court other than the players in it.

10. A line ball is a good ball.
