History of Tennis Games
Tennis is a game that was a product of many years of development. It
has gone through major changes before it became the sport that we know
today. The first tennis game is believed to be played by Maj. Harry Gem
and Augurio Perera, who is his friend. That was in the1860’s. The two
friends used a racket and had followed the rules of the pelota game that
was popular before. They used a croquet lawn to play the first ever
tennis game in the UK. Even though the game was gaining recognition
during that time, it was only in 1872 when the first tennis game club
was established, courtesy of two local doctors.

Lawn tennis is believed to be first played by Maj. Walter Wingfield,
along with his invited guests on his private estate. It was also during
that period when historians claim to be the start of the real tennis
game evolution. From this point to 1890’s, little has changed about the
game.
By the 1900, tennis is played professionally with varied rules
infused into it. The first new rule implemented is for the player to
keep one foot on the ground during serve. It was in 1970 when the tie
breaker rules came to be. In the recent years, instant replay and the
point challenge system are integrated into tennis. These are the modern
technologies that currently utilized in the professional leagues.

On this day, tennis has enjoyed worldwide popularity. There are many
professional tournaments being played throughout the year, which
includes Wimbledon, Australian Open, US Open, and the French Open. These
tennis games are called Grand Slam tournaments and are the major games
of professional tennis. Tennis players vying in these leagues are given
rankings. The better finish that they make, the better rank they are
given. This is how the great tennis players of the generation are
determined. |
